One of the most prominent features of modern life is the excessive consumption of plastics and nylon, which has led to significant pollution, especially in developing countries, including Iranian cities. This issue has become a critical environmental problem. Plastics are now widely used in human life, to the extent that it can be said that human life would be paralyzed without them. However, these highly used materials have caused irreparable harm to humanity, and the damage occurs when plastic turns into waste. The key question is: when does plastic become waste, and how can this major issue be addressed?
Due to the widespread use of nylon and plastics in today’s life, eliminating them is not an easy task, nor may it be necessary. According to many experts, plastics and nylons become waste and a crisis when they are discarded into nature. If measures are taken to prevent the release of these materials into the environment, they will not cause a crisis, and considering their extensive use, they could even resolve many of today’s challenges and needs. In any case, plastics are now integrated into human life, and appropriate solutions and proper usage culture need to be adopted. Many countries, organizations, and institutions have implemented various measures to tackle this environmental crisis, including the approval of restrictive laws, taxation on products, changes in consumer culture, strategies for collection and recycling, the use of alternative fabric bags, and most importantly, biodegradable plant-based bags.
This article, employing an analytical and descriptive approach, collects data from scientific websites, journals, articles, and conferences. It discusses the use of plastics in daily life and their environmental impacts, suggesting solutions for eliminating plastics. The study concludes that the majority of environmental pollution, aside from the growth of the plastics industry, is linked to human interaction with the environment and consumption culture.
