Abstract
On the occasion of National Crane Day, the Environmental Science Student Association of the University of Tehran organized a scientific one-day field trip to the Meyghan Wetland in Arak on November 4th, 2024. This educational event included 40 students from undergraduate to PhD levels, along with professors and officials from the Department of Environment of Markazi Province. The group visited two major sites of the wetland: the first, with fresh to brackish water, is a critical habitat for cranes and other waterbirds; the second features saline pools from sodium sulfate extraction, attracting flamingos feeding on Artemia. Throughout the visit, ecological characteristics, biodiversity, anthropogenic threats, and the wetland’s ecological and economic values were discussed. The trip aimed to raise student awareness of wetland ecosystems and their conservation challenges.
